What are HAY! Straws made from?
HAY! Straws are made from real plant stems. Original straws are made from natural wheat stems, while Jumbo, Slim, and Boba straws are made from natural reed stems. They contain no plastic, no binders, and no synthetic additives.
Are HAY! Straws plastic-free?
Yes. HAY! Straws are 100% plastic-free and contain no PLA, bioplastic, or petroleum-based materials.
Are HAY! Straws PFAS-free?
Yes. All HAY! Straws are independently lab-tested and confirmed PFAS-free, meaning they contain no 'forever chemicals'.
Are HAY! Straws biodegradable and compostable?
Yes. HAY! Straws are biodegradable and compostable. Original wheat stem straws are BPI-certified industrially compostable, and all straw types naturally break down as plant material.
How long do HAY! Straws take to decompose?
Original wheat stem straws break down in about 42 days in a commercial compost facility. Reed stem Jumbo and Slim straws typically decompose within 60–120 days depending on composting conditions.
